how do you unlock program so you can type a word document?

If you have a trial version that has expired, you need to purchase a
suitable version. Uninstall the trial version before installing the new
version.

If it is locked because you failed to activate it on line and you have
exceeded the maximum use whilst unactivated, you just need to go to Word
Options | Resources tab and follow the activation procedure.
