How do you zoom or magnify a view like in other office application

In other office applications you can scale the view via a zoom/magnification.
In project the zoom only changes the time scale.

How do we change the view so we can see more data inside the window?

Sorry, I'm afraid Project does not support this. You can have a new View
(create under View, More Views) in which the font, column width and row
heights are all smaller.

This seems like a pretty basic bit of functionality that has been part of
other applications for years. Why isn't it part of Project?

Project was not originally part of the Office Group and probably used what
programmer hours they had available for what they thought was most
important.
