How does Project Server connect to Issues List?

We are setting up our own template for Project Server. We started with a
project team workspace created by Project Server but there are a few items
that I would like to understand.

First the issues lists does not allow you to specify that the user is
notified when an issue is assigned to them. This means that if we create a
team space (before project is connected) based on this template, then the
users are not notified when there are issues assigned...

With this in mind i was wondering if there was a way to recreate the issues
list based on the issues list template, and what will this mean to project
server connecting to the workspace? How does it communicate currently with
the issue list and can i make it communicate with one i set up?

Thanks.

Bryan:

The issues and risks feature in Project Server are custom web parts and not
the standard SharePoint lists of similar names. You can make minor
modifications to these, but you'll break the connection between Project Web
Access displays and the SharePoint workspace if you change the wrong things.
For instance, the staus of an issue or risk field.

You cannot start with a plain old SharePoint template and then connect it to
a project in PWA. You must start with the template specifically created for
Project Server and modify from there.

Thanks Gary,

That is what we did (started with the project server template). I was trying
to figure out how to bridge the gap between the 2 models (if possble) so we
could start the sites and then convert them to project workspaces.

So far its ok, but things like Issues are missing some key items... like
notifications.

Are there any notes on the differences between the webparts and info on how
to bridge the gap?

Can we update the issues webpart to handle notifications like the sharepoint
default list (if its not connected to project server)?

Thanks.

I "assume" that it's possible to create a import routine to move the data,
but I'd look for advice on moving data between sites from someone more
expert at SharePoint internal functions. My suggestion is that if you ask
any SP questions in the SP newsgroups, that you do so generically.

Do either of the risks or issues lists do anything specific in Project or
Project Server other than being viewable in the interface? Are users
notified of being assigned to risks or issues through project server?
