How fix a "Run Time Error, Abnormal Program Termination" in Word?

I keep getting a "Run time error, \\Path\Winword.exe, Abnormal program
termination" error while using MS Word 2003 and the application shuts down.
I've tried using both the Help and Install disk repair function and error
still occurs. Is my application corrupted? How might I fix this?
