How ignore language in formula

ARRGH!

I've just updated Excel to 2004 and as it happened the new version my
office bought is a Swedish version. Is there any workaround to make
Excel accept english commands in formulas. I program quite a lot in
different languages but being forced by Excel to try to translate
commands like countif to swedish in order to use them is not something
I think is fun.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

You'll need to have you office exchange the Swedish version for an
English version.

if that's really true, then Excel sure is a really, really bad
program. If you make a Swedish version of a C++ compiler, would you
expect it to demand you write things like "if" in swedish?! Can
Microsoft really be that dimwitted?

Come on, English is the de facto standard for computer programming. Why
force people to translate their programming thinking into another
language.

It seems you're a bit disappointed.

Here's a workaround suggestion: when the Office SP1 update came out, I
inadvertently applied the English patch to my French version of Office (as
far as I can remember, this wouldn't have been possible with earlier
versions of Office). And that changed my Office into a complete English
version and apparently was fully functional. It just needs a couple of
adjustments (adapt the folders names, etc.)

Of course I couldn't guarantee this is a fully reliable method as I soon
reverted to my French localized version (uninstalled, reinstalled, etc.): I
personally wouldn't be happy at all to be forced to use English overall and
am very pleased to use my native language inside the spreadsheets, menus,
etc. But I read of some other people having experienced the same, so it
might be worth a try in your situation.
