How is Confirmed field updated in PWA?

There is a field, Confirmed, for task, assignment and resource. How are
these fields updated in PWA? The online help says that when a task is
assigned, the confirmed field is automatically set to No and that when a
resource "accepts" the assignment, the status is changed to Yes. Where is
this "Accepting" done? I have assigned tasks to resources, and the tasks
appear on their My Tasks page, but the confirmed field is still set to "no."
Am I missing a step?

Thanks.

If memory serves me correctly, the Confirmed field is a historical
"holdover" field from the early days of Project Server. My memory is a bit
hazy, so I don't remember if it goes back to Project Central or if started
originally in Project Server 2002, but it is not a new field, I can assure
you. The Confirmed field is an Assignment field, which means that if your
PMs want to see it and use it, they need to add it to the Task Usage view.
In the Task Usage view, the resource assignments will show the Yes/No value
accordingly.

Furthermore, I know of no default method of using this field, so if you want
to use it, you will need to develop your own company's process, and then
train your PMs and TMs how to follow the process. Otherwise, I would
recommend you remove the Confirm field from the My Tasks page and forget
about using it. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale....I appreciate your quick response! We are looking for a way to
allow assignment owner to "approve" an assignment. Do you know if anyone has
published any best practices for using the assignment owner feature?

No, I don't know of any best practices in this area. Generally, companies
use the Assignment Owner field when someone other than the resource assigned
to the task will report progress on behalf of that resource. You might be
able to develop a methodology for using the Confirmed field in that regard,
but my guess is that trying to use this field will be clunky at best. Let
us know what you develop. I would be curious to hear. Hope this helps.
