I am the secretary to the Board of Directors of my company and would like
tips on best ways to take minutes at the board meetings and the various
committee meetings using OneNote3. Thank you

Just click and type! (Or write, if you're using ON on a Tablet PC).

I don;t mean to sound flippant, but On is just that easy to get started.
If you have some followup questions on organizing notes, etc., let us know.

A feature worth considering is to use this product to digitally record the
actual meeting as you take notes. OneNote ties the two inputs together so
that when you review your written notes, you can listen directly to that
section of the audio. This frees you to participate in the meeting knowing
you can quickly find the spot in the audio should your documentation need to
be augmented later for publication.

I've benefitted greatly from the built-in outlining features in OneNote--very
easy & very cool. Ssee the Help articles: "Structure notes as outlines";
"About outline structures in notes". (Vertical outlines are easy & useful,
though beware of in-line tabs & the hazards of horizontal outlining.)

Also Ctrl+1 for auto f/u flags is very cool--not only for questions at the
end of the meeting but also for subsequent f/u.

Learn AutoCorrect! This is Office's single most powerful, underutilized
tool. Use Alt+T,A to expose the dialog. You can create many entries on the
fly. I use it for HUNDREDS of entries. Everything from simple acronyms
(e.g., dhcp > DHCP; ntk > network; ws > Windows Server 2003; ss > SQL Server
2000; s5 > SQL Server 2005; 59.. > (317) 590-8650; 12.. > 1245 South Dukane
Way; inin > Indianapolis, IN; tyf; Thank you for the opportunity to be of
service; ag > Aspiring Geek). Remember, this is stored in your profile as a
*.acl file. Be sure it gets backed up somehow--even if you have to do it
manually! You will probably also want to include custom.dic in your backup.

Also, Ctrl+Sh+E to email recipients--those w/ & w/o OneNote has been very
useful. For some reason, it always seemed arduous to get my meeting notes in
a sufficiently readable format, but not so with OneNote.

Good luck!
