How is the latest Word X with HTML conversions?

Bible John

I am using Word 98 and it defenitaly has issues with converting files to
HTML, or copying and pasting files from websites into Word docs. In Word
98 I can copy a webpage into Word and all the formatting is lost. I do
not have this problem with Word XP. Will I if I bought Word X?

Today I created a doc for my website
(http://johnw.freeshell.org/bible/bible_studies/Theological/animals_in_he
aven.htm)

and the verses are all jumbled. If I bought Office X will I have these
problems, or will the original file appear the same when I convert to
HTML? I know with Office XP I can save a Word doc to HTML and it
appears exactly the same in a browser.

Thanks,

John

I meant Word 2004. If I upgraded it would be to Word 2004.

Using AppleWorks for OSX or Texedit my HTML files appear fine. So from know
on when I create a document I will then copy and paste the doc into
AppleWorks or TexEdit.

Hi John:

HTML gets "a little better" between Word 98 and Word X, and "slightly
better
again" between Word X and Word 2004.

However, it is nowhere near the Word 2003 level. Word 2003 contains a
full
implementation of XML, making it more capable of "web pages" than most
browsers.

This mechanism is missing from Mac Word.

As usual. I hear Outlook 2003 is ages better than Entourage. Mail is a nice
app, but no doubt it has its drawbacks when compared to Outlook 2003.
If I were in the position of "wanting to make web pages" and I had Word
98,
I think I would spend my money on a real web editor such as DreamWeaver.

My web pages are very basic and if you went to my site you would see so.
Claris Home Page gets the basic job done, and as I see AppleWorks does as
well, and much better than Word 98.

Compare this version vs. the one I pasted yesterday and you will see why I
will never use Word 98 again to export as HTML. I will just copy and paste
into AppleWorks or TexEdit.

Sure I would like Office 2004 or DreamWeaver, but I need a new job for one.
I am on a tight budget, so I need to love with my old Classic apps and the
apps that shipped with OSX.
Wait for the "next" version of Word on the Mac: that will have the
full-featured HTML/XML editing capabilities currently available only on
the
high-end version of PC Word. (It must have, in order to use the latest
Office file formats).

I hope it will upgrade from Office98.

Word 2004 is more capable than TextEdit. I'm not sure about AppleWorks.

I and most who have used both would give you a furious argument on THAT :)
I use Outlook all day, but I do the majority of my personal email (and all
my posting here) from Entourage.

Outlook is so revolting to use that you just have to suffer it. The only
thing that keeps the world from taking it out the back and putting it out of
its misery is Exchange Server. If your email provider is Exchange Server,
then Outlook has a few advanced functions that entourage hasn't got.

But for ordinary users who are not making heavy business use of shared
calendars and synchronisation, Entourage is a much nicer application to use.
My web pages are very basic and if you went to my site you would see so.

I did go to your suite. Word 2004 will easily handle that (and perhaps
enable you to make your site look more attractive, if you choose to).

Have a look at this page:
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/CreateFraction.htm

I seem to remember that I did that one straight out of Word. (If using
Safari, keep hitting refresh until the page appears, or use any other
browser...)
I hope it will upgrade from Office98.

The Files? Yes, it will. The "price"? We have absolutely no idea, of
course. Microsoft has been "tightening" the qualifying conditions for
upgrade pricing. However, as soon as Office 12 arrives, you can read the
conditions on their website.

Cheers
