How is the start date calculated by MSP?

Thanks for taking time to read.

When adding a new task to the project, to which start date does MSP default,
or what date does it use to determine the start date. I would like to
understand why MSP defaults to a start date of 5 Oct, if today’s date is 22
Nov, and the start date of the project was June.

Hello George,

Check the true Start date of the project in the menu : Project / Project
Information...
Another parameter to check :
Tools / Options / Schedule / New tasks: Start On Project Start Date (or:
Start on current date)
