How link project file to users?

We just setup Microsoft Project Server 2003. Project Manager is not
currently creating Enterprise projects as we have not figured out how
to do that yet. He uploads a project to project server with resource
names that match exactly the full names of the users in the project
server. It does not seem to link the MS project file resources with
the users defined in Project Server, so when a resource connects in,
they are told they have no tasks even though that is not the case. How
do you get Project Server to link the users in their project file with
the users in Project Server?

Thanks.

Before you proceed any further, I would strongly recommend that you purchase
our company's books on Project Server 2003. One book is specifically for
project managers, and describes how to use every aspect of Project Server
from the project manager's perspective. The other book is aimed at the
needs of Project Server administrators, and gives them a systematic approach
to setting up everything needed in the system after Project Server is
installed. You can purchase either or both of our books by clicking either
link in my signature block.

To answer your question, I am not convinced that your PM has actually
created an enterprise project. First of all, how did he do it? Did he open
the .mpp file, click File - Save As, and then save it directly in the
Project Server database? If so, this is incorrect. He should use Tools -
Enterprise Features - Import Project to Enterprise instead, paying close
attention to matching local resources with enterprise resources in the
project. Beyond this, once the PM has actually saved an enterprise project,
he needs to publish it using Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan and then
Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed Assignments. The latter of the two
publishing operations is what actually causes the tasks to show up on team
member's timesheets. Hope this helps.
