Depends on the type of academic version you are talking about.
If purchased through a college/school there are two types of licenses. One
is a perpetual license while the other is only valid while you are a student
at the school.
If you are talking about Home and Student, it is a perpetual license.
You need to read the documentation and/or the EULA for the software to
determine it's version license.
