How many CALs needed

My SQL Server 2000 is used only as the database for one instance of Project
Server and one instance of SharePoint (each with many users).

How many SQL Server CALs are required here?

If you log into PWA with administrator permissions and then click Admin -
About Microsoft Office Project Server 2003, you will see the count of the
system users on this page. Project Server counts every work resource in the
system, whether they are humans or equipment. To determine the amount of
CAL's, you should take the number presented on this page, subtract the
number of Microsoft Project users (who get a CAL included with the purchase
of Microsoft Project Professional), and also subtract the number of machine
or equipment resources. Hope this helps.

Dale,

But, how many SQL Server CALs are required here?

Is it one for the Project Server instance and another for the SharePoint
instance for a total of two SQL Server CALs?

Thanks

Sorry, right answer to the wrong question, or was it the wrong answer to the
right question. I will let our SQL Server folks reply to your question.
Sorry.

You will need licensing for the users to access to SQL Server. This is
usually through user CAL or per processor.

For Project Server you need the following server licenses:
Windows Server 2003 License
SQL Server 2000 License
Project Server License

You need the following user licenses:

Project Web Access (PWA) Users:
- Project Server CAL required for each User or Device
- Windows Server 2003 CAL
- SQL Server 2000 CAL or Per Processor Licensing

Project Professional Users:
- Project Professional License
- A Project Server CAL is included with Project Professional for Project
Server access
- Windows Server 2003 CAL
- SQL Server 2000 CAL or Per Processor Licensing

I hope this helps.
