How many projects can it handle?

A few simple questions from a Project novice. We sell both services and
products - we do fabrication and installation of high end residential
audio/visual/security integrated systems. Our company has up to 40 projects
(jobs) going at any given time (this may increase in the future).
Right now we have no real project management tools. Can Project 2003 handle
that number of projects? Would Project 2003 be an oversized tool for our
needs? Can Project work with Access?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Nancy:

A simple answer: if you plan on using the stand alone
version of project (non-enterprise) you are really only
limited by storage space and computing power. Project
can absolutely handle your volume of projects, quite
easily in fact. It is an extremely powerful tool.
Consider the enterprise version for far greater
functionality.

Hope this helps!

One project would be all the tasks required to complete one order or one
system from start to finish, most likely, and each one should be in its own
file. Project can handle unlimited projects as independent files, limited
only by the disk space you've got to store them on. If you want to create a
common labour pool that all your projects will draw from, that is, a
resource pool file, or a consolidated project file showing the individual
projects linked into a master plan, Project can have up to 999 files open
concurrently.
