How many tasks can Project hold?

I am working on a large project that will take at least 6,000 task lines.
Is project designed to handle this? Is there a maximum number of tasks that
can be created inside Project 2003?

Project can handle 10's of thousands of tasks. Your constraints come from
what is manageable, not the number of tasks. For example if your project is
broken into sub-projects with different people managing and scheduling them
then you need to split your schedule into sub-projects as each file can only
be opened in read and write mode by one person (after the first person, all
other users get read only access only).

This is well within Project's capability. To see some numbers, go to the
help in Proejct and type "Specification" which will show you 1,000,000 tasks
are possible. In all practicality, it will be your RAM, CPU and network that
set an effective limit.

We had a template for server upgrades with a large number of servers to do.
With a macro to insert the template and customise it for the different
server parameters our schedule got up to 60,000 tasks.
After having a bit of a laugh on how ridiculous this was we went for a much
smaller template.

So your 6000 task schedule is do-able if you need it.
