Does onenote currenty have any connection to outlook. If not is there any
plan to do so? I.e. replace the outlook note function?

Not in the notes area. You can use OneNote to create Outlook tasks,
appointments and contact items.

No specific note functionality at present.

I'm using Plan Plus which has power notes that work in Outlook so they are
readily accessible in outlook. I played around with onenote when it first
came out and it didn’t impress me enough to spend much time screwing with it
unless it was going to replace the notes function in outlook or have some
capabilities like Lotus Notes or through sharepoint or something like that
that I don’t know about. How committed could they be if you still can’t
label a sub note tab. I guess the bigger question is:

Is OneNote going anywhere? Is it going to morph into something bitchen or
get trashed next year?

Bradley,
I strongly suggest you check out the additions made to OneNote during
Office's SP1. With that version (released last summer), you can share note
pages via SharePoint and you can name sub-pages. In addition, you can have
live shared sessions, you can push content into OneNote from other apps, and
you can send notes to Outlook. (Though the items sent to Outlook are not
linked or formatted exactly as you might want.) I would say download the
trial from the Microsoft site and see if it comes closer to meeting your
needs. I think you will find it does.

As Kathy pointed out the current version does give the ability to name
subnotes, along with many other features.

As to where it's going, I can assure you that there certainly is a next
version on the horizon. I'll have to leave it to you as to whether or not
it's "bitchen." :)

I am, say, an informed computer user, starting from Commodore 8K way back
when? Last century for sure. Retired now, but dragged a large organization
into PCs along the way. Not as an IT guy but an manager/user.
OneNote is one of the programs I cannot live without and also cannot wait
for further improvements. I hope OneNote is not going the way another
excellent program, HAL, went, to oblivion.
It is always surprising to me that people would condemn a program without
giving it a good work over, or if they are so impatient, at least read the
group discussions or watch couple of training videos. If Bradley is
satisfied with his present programs, so be it, but please refrain from
taking cheap shots, untrue, about another program.
