How override stubborn fill color in some cells, rows?

Excel 11.2.3. On some worksheets, with alternate color fill rows, how do I
override the fill color in particular cells or even whole rows when they
refuse to change when I highlight them and select a different fill color?
(I verified by checking under Tools that the workbook was not protected.)

One possibility - It sounds like the alternating fill is being applied by
code rather than having been applied directly. (Were the files in question
created from a template?) If so the only fix is to edit the code - otherwise
every time you reformat directly the controlling code changes it back.

Thanks, Bob.

1. I do not think the most recent spreadsheet that has been giving me
problems was created from a template, at least not one with alternating
color fill rows because I can change most rows, just not the fill for some
cells in some rows. My first question, then, is what options do I have on
such existing spreadsheets?

2. Unlike the above situation, I do have spreadsheets I intentionally
created from templates that alternate the fill color/no fill for rows. How
does one edit the code, please? (In some exceptions on a particular
spreadsheet, I would like to have a couple adjacent rows use the same fill.

It is possible that conditional formatting is applied to the cell(s) you're
trying to change. That could result in this situation. To check for
conditional formatting, select the problematic cell(s), then go to
Format/Conditional Formatting... If there is a condition set for that cell
or range of cells that's causing the fill color to be set a particular way,
you can delete it by clicking Delete... And then selecting the checkbox
associated with the condition you want to delete.

Thanks,

Pat
