How pages look

A friend sent me a screenshot of a page with a form on it (What others
are saying link at the bottom). The form ran off the side of the page.
I've checked the site in IE(6), Opera and Mozilla, and the client has
viewed the pages and they look correct. She also said the text looks
tight, but I'm using Verdana 10.5.

I don't know if it is her browser setting or what. She uses aol to view
pages and is running X2, so I'm at a loss.

The content notwithstanding, how do the pages display?

All pages showed up great in my system (1280-800 display). All were
centered nicely, text was fine. Only comment is that you need a return
(home) button on the map page.

Thanks for the feedback. However, there is a Home link on the map page -
toward the top on the right hand side. At least in my browser. Are you
sure it is missing when you view it?

Aha, mystery solved. AOL's browser, used with 120 dpi display settings
don't affect everything, but it can mess up forms. I will have to play
with this some more, but there isn't an easy way to change displays
without rebooting. :-(

Sorry, missed the home button. Most web sites have the navigation buttons
on the top of the page where your's have them down the side.

No problem - the client likes where they are! Except for that page, all
the links are down the side and across the top. I tend to avoid Nav Bars
- Search Engines don't read them. Plus, I needed to make this site look
different from others.

On the Directions page, I wanted to make sure visitors didn't leave the
page to view MapQuest. I have an i-frame that holds a link to MapQuest
which is for Tinks - visitors do not have to enter an address. They can
even type in their address and get directions to the restaurant without
leaving the site. However, MapQuest uses relative spacing and the ad
banner is on the right - thus the scroll bar. The space at the bottom is
mostly because MapQuest's page is much longer than the static map. I
probably need to better explain everything in the text. The pages are a
first draft for the client, who loved them. But I want to make sure
visitors see all there is to see. I have to remember that just because I
know what I am doing and what everything on a page is, not everyone
will. ;-(

I'm concerned about the Flash not working - I wonder what the percent of
viewers are that do not have Flash enabled? In this case, it really
doesn't add anything to the site, so I think I will replace it with an
image. Perhaps an interlaced gif - they are about as rare as hen's teeth
these days, but would be similar. Something to catch a visitor's eye.

The buttons are the home page are not links. They are underlined and I'm
finding most people are so use to seeing links at the top of a page,
they presume all are. I don't want to remove the buttons, but I think I
will take away the underline.

While I'm grateful for the suggestions and am glad you gave them, my
original post was not really asking for this feedback. Just a short note
- I'll e-mail more. Someone else had viewed the site and reported the
form was really mucked up. It looked horrible and she supplied a
screenshot. I had viewed the pages in IE, Mozilla and Opera and all was
fine. I had even looked at a couple of them using 120 dpi fonts. I
didn't know if everyone saw what I saw or if it was just her. It appears
most people see what I see. But it is a problem with at least one
browser, AOL's. More in the e-mail.

Just curious. What's up with the scroll bar at the bottom of
http://www.valleycat.net/tinks/directions.html ? There also seems to be a
lot of space below the map...is that what you intended?

On the home page, I don't get the image of Tinks to load in IE 6. It appears
to require flash? It loads on the Menu page and other pages.

On the home page the link buttons Fantastic Food, Excellent Bar and the Jazz
button don't work for me.

I didn't load every page, but perhaps these observations will help?

Actually I didn't reply sooner because it did seem that you had answered the
original question. I just revisited the site when the topic of the home
button came up, and thus observed the issues I noted. Just thought I would
pass them along. ;-)
