I have created a Visio Org Chart from an excel template
I want to colour boxes dependent on criteria either in the box or in the
custom properties of the box.

For example colour the boxes of all Senior Grade Woman with more than 4
years service GREEN.

If possible I would like to have multiple criteria (max. 3) displayed on one
chart either in multi-coloured boxes or a coloured box with multi-cloured
shadows or intersected boxes.

you might try the help facility and look for "color value" using custom
properties..

try this: gain access to each box's shape sheet.
run visio in developer mode, right click on the intended box shape -> show
shapesheet.
now
in section Line Format, row LineColor, you will insert the custom properties
cell that you wish to reference. i.e Prop.snrwoman

if this custom property cell is value 2, the line color of the box will be
"red"..value 4 ->iis pink etc.
