How pictures are loading onto the internet

J

Jeanie

I have completed a website and everything appears fine, but I have noticed
that when a picture is loading it appears as a box then turns into the
picture. I don't have a problem with the time that the pictures take to
download which is a mere second or two. How can I get rid of the boxes and
just have the pictures appear in their own time?

Thanks,

D

Not a Publisher question, that's a browser issue.
If you are using IE go to Tools, Advanced and turn off image placeholders.
if you need further help with that I refer you to the IE forum.
If you are using another browser check it's Help section.

David,
I don't see placeholders when I look at other websites. I did check with
Internet Explorer to make sure that the place holders were off and they were.
Any other suggestions?

Hi David and Jeanie,
Excuse the barging in, but I am having the same issue. My original site was
built using Publisher 2000 and I didn't get the place holder. When I updated
using 2003 I do. Also, place holders is off in my browser.

I guess I'm starting to notice this now. I'd guess it's a IE thing, they (MS
IE) may have changed things in the browser to always show them. And it just
so happens that Pub 2003 pages are typically slow loading hence that would
be noticable. I'd recommend posting in the IE forum as to how IE's latest
builds handle placeholders.

Thanks for your reply David. I do notice that sites built with Pub 2000
still don't do it. I guess I'll see if I can go back to 2000 to build the
pages or move on to a different tool. The place holders cause a very
unprofessional appearance.

Have a great day and thanks again.

Pub 2000 pages will load much much faster then a Pub 2003 page. All the more
so if you place the target browser setting in 2000 to it's lowest level.

Howard, I took out all of the pictures, graphics and text in publisher and am
using frontpage to reinsert them. This has done away with the placeholders.
This is a lot less work than rebuilding totally in front page.

Hi Jeanie,
I went back and redid mine (or am in the process) in Pub 2000. I've built
my main pages so many times I could probably do it in my sleep. I've
resolved several problems by going back to 2000. I've looked at Front Page
and have Adobe GoLive, but publisher sure is easy. Too bad they went
backwards with the upgrades. Won't be the last $79 I wasted:)

Good luck on your site

Hi I was wondering if one of you guys could help me. I am having the same
issue with the image taking a second to load and seeing its placeholder with
that little icon. I too would like to get rid of that appearance. I am
using embedded jpeg images and all are 15kb and under. I am using Publisher
2003.

One thing I noticed but could be coincidence is it actually worked fine on
my desktop which has an IE version of 6.0.2600 w/ no servie pack update. A
few other laptops I have used and another desktop all have 6.0.2800 and
higher w/ SP1 update version. The higher browser version is where the delay
and the placeholders occur. Any thougths on this?

Are you recommending me to save my work in Publisher 2000? If so, I get a
message saying my published document has features that are not supported in
the lower version. I am not sure what these are because I used pretty basic
stuff; text, images, and links. Thanks for your help.

Hi Phil,

I am certainly not the expert on this, but I was told that your issue (and
mine) were related to using Publisher 2003. You can not edit your site with
2000 if you built it with 2003. In my case I went to all of the trouble to
rebuild in 2000 and sure enough it loads faster and the little place holders
are gone.

A bit aggrevating.

Best of luck.

Hi Jeanie,
I went back and redid mine (or am in the process) in Pub 2000. I've built
my main pages so many times I could probably do it in my sleep. I've
resolved several problems by going back to 2000. I've looked at Front
Page
and have Adobe GoLive, but publisher sure is easy. Too bad they went
backwards with the upgrades. Won't be the last $79 I wasted:)

Good luck on your site

Howard

Howard, I took out all of the pictures, graphics and text in publisher
and am
using frontpage to reinsert them. This has done away with the
placeholders.
This is a lot less work than rebuilding totally in front page.

:

Thanks for your reply David. I do notice that sites built with Pub
2000
still don't do it. I guess I'll see if I can go back to 2000 to build
the
pages or move on to a different tool. The place holders cause a very
unprofessional appearance.

Have a great day and thanks again.

:

I guess I'm starting to notice this now. I'd guess it's a IE thing,
they (MS
IE) may have changed things in the browser to always show them. And
it just
so happens that Pub 2003 pages are typically slow loading hence that
would
be noticable. I'd recommend posting in the IE forum as to how IE's
latest
builds handle placeholders.

Hi David and Jeanie,
Excuse the barging in, but I am having the same issue. My original
site
was
built using Publisher 2000 and I didn't get the place holder. When
I
updated
using 2003 I do. Also, place holders is off in my browser.

Thanks,
Howard

What's the URL?
What version of Pub?

David,
I don't see placeholders when I look at other websites. I did
check
with
Internet Explorer to make sure that the place holders were off
and they
were.
Any other suggestions?

Jeanie

:

Not a Publisher question, that's a browser issue.
If you are using IE go to Tools, Advanced and turn off image
placeholders.
if you need further help with that I refer you to the IE forum.
If you are using another browser check it's Help section.

I have completed a website and everything appears fine, but I
have
noticed
that when a picture is loading it appears as a box then turns
into
the
picture. I don't have a problem with the time that the
pictures take
to
download which is a mere second or two. How can I get rid of
the
boxes
and
just have the pictures appear in their own time?

Thanks,
