How prevent text or watermark being modified?

I am using Word 2003 (version 11) with SP2.


(1) Is there a way to set a document in Word such that a recipient is
unable to change any of the text when it is displayed or printed?


(2) If I can't do (1) then is there some way I can prevent my
watermark, which says "Do Not Circulate", from being removed?
Especially when the document is printed?

Ultimately the answer is no. If I can see it, I can find a way to get around
anything you do to try to keep me from passing the info on.

Joanne is unfortunately correct. ANYTHING that can be displayed on screen
can be edited. But you can make it difficult. The obvious way is to save the
document as Read Only and assign it a LONG/COMPLEX password (at least 16
random characters comprising mixed letters, numbers and symbols with case
changes). You can also convert the file to PDF and password protect it too
(again with a complex password). This is the most common way to stop
recipients editing your documents and most normal users won't attempt it.

If you suspect that someone is tampering with your documents, then send each
recipient a slightly (and subtly) different version, making a record of who
received which version. Then you should be able to identify whose copy is
being edited.

However, send it to me and given sufficient reason, I'll edit it!
