How prevent two copies of outlook opening from desktop shortcut?

Have new laptop with windows XP. Installed MS Office after receipt. Created
deskstop shortcut for Outlook, excel, power point and word. Two copies of
outlook open whenever I launch outlook. How can I prevent this?

You should post to one of the Office or Outlook newsgroups, according to
which version of Office you have. This newsgroup supports the OneNote
program, not the Office family or Outlook itself.
