How should I use Templates

I have downloaded some templates and put my own words in them. Is there
another use such as saving the template without adding my words and then
merging different sections into them? I'm thinking mostly of word documents.
Should I be saving templates in a certain area?

Some of the templates save automatically when they're downloaded. Others
don't seem to do it quite right.

So you can choose File | Save As and then in the "save as type" box, choose
Template. That will automatically take you to the folder where templates
should be saved. You may need to choose File | New when you want to start a
document based on one, but it depends on the program.
