I used to have a macro for sorting, but had to trash it due to macro
problems.

I'm now trying to use the sort button, but can't figure out what to do.
Please help. This is where I am. thanks:

Where you are is up the creek in a barb wire canoe.

Your delimiters seem to be " . ", but not all the time.
If you have less than 1000 records and don't speak perl, python or some
other text processing language, I suggest you massage that mess in
Excel before sucking it into Word. Excel has much better string
handling functions than Word does. When you get everything in the right
columns in Excel, save it as a tab delimited list and try again.

If your file is really large, buy a perl programming buddy a few jars
of amber nectar.

You are right Elliot, time to get it into Excel, but it did sort in Word
fine. Can't remember how though.

If each line constitutes a "record" ending with a hard return, you should be
able to select the list & use Table>Sort [Ascending/Descending]. The default
will be to sort by paragraph, so it just depends on the content of each
"row" as to whether that will render the exact order you are looking for.
