How to add a note to a sent message for future reference

After a message is sent in Outlook, I wish to retreive it and attach a note
for future reference.

Open the message and either edit it or attach a note like a normal
attachment. Flagging or categorizing it is a possibility as well

Thank you very much for your response. Actually, I opened the sent item, went
to edit, inserted my text and then back to file and clicked "save".
My text got saved in the email for future reference. Perhaps, you can
comment on this procedure?

That is good. You can also use an attachment; it's what you find eassiest
:)
