how to add a pst file to outlook

I created a pst at work, containing calendar, notes, to-dos, and contact
information. I think its Outlook 2003 at work. I'm trying to put this
information on my home pc in Oulook which is Outlook 2000. I've tried doing
File/open/personal folders file (pst), then selecting the pst file, which
I've copied to my Windows/local setting/application data/microsoft/outlook
folder. Then I get an error message saying 'properties for this information
service must be defined prior to use'. How do I fix this?

assuming you have the versions correct, you need to export in the outlook
97-2002 format on the work system.

What does that mean? What's the first few steps I need to take? I want to put
the pst from Outlook 2003 (from work pc which I no longer have access to)
into my home pc, which is Outlook 2000.

outlook 2003 uses a different file format than outlook 2000. if you exported
it in the new format, you cannot open it in older versions. You'll need to
upgrade to outlook 2003 or 2007.

how did you move the file home? if you used a cd, copy it to the hard drive
and make sure the read flag is unchecked in the file properties.

Re; how I moved it home; my support person at work led me through creating
the pst file, then I put it on a jump drive. My home desktop is old and
doesn't work well with the jump drive so I used my home laptop to create a
copy on to a cd. Then I copied it from the cd to my home desktop. I guess
I'll have to buy/install Outlook 2003. Thanks very much Diane. I appreciate

On the work PC, click File>New>Outlook Data File. Select the Outlook
97-2002 format and click OK. Browse to the folder where you want the file
(I would NOT accept the default - choose My Documents or some place
similar), give the file a name (I would not accept the default - use "Work"
or something like that), and click OK. Gove the file a display name (the
Name field) (I would not accept the default, but use something like "Work)
and click OK. The PST fill be added to your Folder List in the Navigation
Pane. Now, select each opf your original folders and clisk Edit>Copy.
Specify the root ("Work", iof that's the display name you chose) and click
OK. One you have all of your folders copied, right-click the root of the
new PST and choose Close. Close Outlook. Copy the PST to the transfer
medium of your choice, like CD.

At how, put the transfer medium in the PC and copyt the PST to your hard
drive. In Windows Exploerer, right-click it and choose Properties. Remove
the read-only attribute. Now open Outlook and click File>Open>Personal
Folders File. The PST will open and show in your Folders List. You can use
it as-is, or copy the data in each of the folders to the corresponding
folder already in your Outlook. For the default folders, you'll have to
open each, select the contents with CTRL-A and use Edit>Copy to Folder to
copy the data. FOr ht eCalendar folder, you'll have to select a table view
like By Category in order for CTRL-A to work. For any non-default folder,
just copy the folder itself.
