How to add file shortcuts to contacts, tasks, and appointments?

I would like to add shortcuts to specific files on my HD in My Documents to
Outlook contacts, tasks, and appointments. When I try creating a shortcut to
a file and then copy and pasting it into one of these items, the extension
changes to .lnk (if I remember correctly) and security concerns will not
permit Outlook to save the shortcut.

Anybody know how to do this?

Thanks!

What's a "text link"? BTW, I'm only trying to open Excel or Word files.

EIther use text links or loosen security; see

Thanks, Sue!

I had to use the <file://... > convention to deal with spaces in the file
path.
