how to adjust the amount of space inserted by a tab in a text box

hi all,

i have a list in a text box on a slide like this:

List A
Item1
Item2
Item3
List B
Item4
Item5

I want it to appear like this:
List A
Item1
Item2
Item3
List B
Item4
Item5

i've done this by inserting tab (to make it appear aligned) since the indent
function seems not to be applicable in this case (but may be i did not
utilise it propperly - if so, pls do advice to the contrary). however what i
found was the amount of spaces inserted by a tab was too much for my liking.
is there a way to decrease the amount of spaces inserted by the tab for this
specific situation. failing that, any work around to achieve what i wanted to
achieve?

Turn on your ruler (View|Ruler) and drag the indent marker into position.
Pressing the Ctrl key while dragging will let you position them more
precisely.

i should have added that there is a carriage return at the end of each
entry. so using the indent (as i mentioned earlier) will not and did not help
because it would moves all the entries i.e.:

from:

List A
Item1
Item2
Item3
List B
Item4
Item5

to (after using the indent):

List A

Item3
List B
Item4
Item5

instead of:

List A
Item1
Item2
Item3
List B
Item4
Item5

which is what i wanted to achieve.

All three look the same in my browser so not quite sure what your trying to
do but instead of a Carriage return, try shift + enter see if that helps

thanks again john for your reply. shift+enter did not work but i discovered
something else when messing about with the indent. i think the bottom marker
(the rectangular one) represented the tabbing distance. so when i set that to
the desired place then all my tabbing will be the way i want them to be. so
echo s could be right all along but should have clarified that it is the tab
(bottom indent) that does the trick.

what i was trying to do was to indent the second & subsequent lines after
each heading.

Shift /enter is still the way to do it (especially if you have bullets or
numbers which will be affected by moving the caret.)
You just need to insert a tab stop on the ruler. Can you see a little black
L to the left of the ruler, thats a left tab (click it to get other tab
formats) While left tab is showing click just under the ruler where you want
the indent then Shift + Enter> TAB

Only if the line of text extends to a second line. If you have only one line
of text in a bulletpoint, there's no reason to use Shift+Enter.

Just being nitpicky.
