How to allow Delegates to read email w/o marking it read?

The Assistants at my company have been delegated access to read & filter
email for the executives. They want the mail to remain marked unread when
the executives view it.

We just migrated from Notes to Exchange and this is a feature they were
used to. Is there a way to do it?
