How to Allow Peers to See Tasks

Is there any easy way to let all members of a team view the resource
assignments for their peers (not their reports)? My team members can open up
projects to which they are assigned and filter to find tasks containing a
specific resource, but this is cumbersome if they need to view tasks across
multiple projects. My two use cases are a mentor wishing to review the tasks
of their “mentee†and one person in a pair doing the same type of work
wishing to review how they might be able to help the other person in the pair.

The only way I’ve found so far to do this is to create a new category for
that team and add all team members as resources that can be viewed by that
category, then create a new group and assign the same people to that group so
they can access the category. Since the team structure already exists in the
RBS, this means I am entering each team three times into Project Server. :(

Thanks for any insight.

Your approach is how I would do it, by creating a custom Category to control
what they can see, and a custom Group to control what they can do, and then
adding the custom Category to the Custom group to control what they can do
with what they can see. I might do a few additional things, however,
including:

1. In the custom Category, I would add the Summary view to the list of
Assignment views they are allowed to see.

2. In the custom Group, I would set the View Assignments View permission to
Allow in the Global Permissions grid, and I would set the See Resource
Assignments in Assignment Views permission to Allow in the Permissions grid
for the custom Category you created.

Doing these steps will allow those few team members to see other team
members' assignments in the View resource assignments page in PWA. Hope
this helps.

Dale -

Thanks for the response. I had done the steps you mentioned and it works.
I was just hoping for a simpler solution so I wouldn't have to maintain each
team's members in three different locations (RBS, Category and Group).
