How to apply music to website

J

JL Paules

A better question is WHY would you apply music to ANY page of a website.
(Sorry, I really hate that and will close that site out in a heartbeat if
music starts. I find it annoying and unless there is information I MUST have
on that page, I'm out of there.)

T

tech27

I hate those flash intros too, but there are times when it is appropriate.
For example, I'm putting together a site on which there are pages people can
go to to see a gallery of pictures or a video from special events which
include music and commentary.

People will KNOW that this is what they will get when they click the link.

I'd like to know how to do it too.

Thanks.

Flash intros are another annoyance. I skip them whenever possible. I'm a
plain website kind of gal - I'm there for the info.

If I'm visiting a site such as you described, then I'd like a disclaimer
before entering that page. If the music is appropriate and serves a purpose,
then sure, add it. But If I visit a site for info and have some tinny music
tinkling in the background - see ya!

I agree completely.
My point was that I am trying to link from one page to another. On the
linked page there are a selection of images with the music from the event.
Other pages have images and spoken word. I've chosen to put them on separate
pages so that people can read the link information then go to the page of
their choosing and have the music/commentary start as soon as the page
opens. It's their choice and they know exactly what's coming.

So how do I do it????

Thanks

I gotta tell you, I use Front Page for my websites, not Publisher. IMO,
Publisher is great for DTP. Period. I know that MS promotes Publisher as
being good for websites but I just don't feel it's the proper tool. Sorry.

Again, I agree.
But until I get my head around Adobe GoLive and Flash (full sites, not just
jiggles and tunes), Publisher was a pretty quick fix. I used to have
Frontpage, but Office XP 2003 only came with Publisher (unless I missed
something in the install.)

what do you mean you used to have FP? If you had it once, why don't you
still have it? You can use a lesser version of FP with Office. I am running
FP 2002 (for now) with Office 2003. Works fine.

Once upon a time I had it installed on systems running Win98. All new stuff
on all our machines meant XP Pro and Office 2003. I suppose I could dig out
some old copies of Office and reinstall it, but like I said, Publisher is
just temporary until I get a good handle on GoLive.

There you go! A solution! Do a custom install and use FP. You can take a bit
more time to learn GoLive then. I've heard that program has a pretty steep
learning curve. I've never used it so I don't know firsthand.

To do this in Publisher 2000 you would insert your music file into the
background by going to File > Web Properties > Page > Background Sound.
However, if you want it to play on only one page, you need to separate that
page by creating a seperate Publisher file and then linking the new page to
your main page. David Bartosik explains how to build a site with multiple
Publisher files here: http://www.davidbartosik.com/pub2k/pub2k_6.htm The
techinique should be basically the same for Pub 2003.
