How to assign a task to a user?

O

Oliver Klee

Hi all,

using Project Server 2003 and the Project Professional 2003 client, I have
difficulties assigning tasks to existing users.

These are the steps I've gone to reproduce the problem:
1. Using Web Access, create a user account.
2. Using the client, create a new project.
3. From the Ressources sidebar, choose "add ressources from Project Server".
4. Choose "assemble a team from Project Server".

Expected result:
In the following dialog, the user appears as a ressource and can be selected
for the team.
The user is also visible in the ressource list in Web Access either.

Actual result:
The user doesn't appear in the list of availabel ressources.
The user doesn't appear in the ressource list in Web Access either.

What can I do? I'll appreciate any help on this.

Thanks in advance,

Oliver

Hi oliver,

it seems you do everything right - as i understand what
you are doing it should be working... maybe you could
check in PWA admin at "server configuration" and
activate "enable enterprize features"

if this does not change something you can also try to just
type in the resource id at your client to the individual
tasks - if you have the resource set as enterprizte
resource and if enterprize feeatures are activated then
you you will be asked when you publish the new assignment
(if the resource id is exactly the same as the id you ste
up in pwa) the you will be asked if the enterprize
resource and the used resource are the same!!!

hope that will solve your problem

cheers

Oliver --

You are not correctly creating resources in your Project Server environment.
You should create resources using the following steps:

1. Log into Project Server through Microsoft Project Professional with
administrator permissions
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Resource Pool
3. Click the Open/Add button
4. Add the same resources as you already added as users in PWA and make
sure the names match exactly
5. Add as many resources additional as exist within your organization's
project management environment
6. Save and close the Enterprise Resource Pool

When you create resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool, Project Server
automatically creates user accounts for them in PWA. Once you have done
these steps, then you can add resources to the new project by clicking
Tools - Build Team from Enterprise. Hope this helps.
