how to be notified of new msgs ?

I have set up my outlook 2000 on my pc win 2000 sp4, to check new emails
every 10 mins.
But how does it work ?
For example, if I just start my PC, and outlook is not in my startup : will
outlook perform the shceduled task of chekcing my emails every 10 mins, and
how ?
Or must I start minimized my outlook so that he can check every 10 mins ?
Is there any other solution rether than having outlook minimized, and not
started at all ?

Outlook must be running to collect mail, either minimized or not. Put a
shortcut on your Quick Launch bar and start it manually when you boot. Do not
put OL in Startup, since you need everything else (antivirus, network, etc.)
to launch before OL.
