How to build an acronym list?

I tried using X-references but it seems I can create x-ref using just
numbered lists ... I'd like to create a list of acronims like
[MS] Miscrosft
[DOS] Disk operating System

and then refecernce [MS] and [DOS] thoughout the document ...

Any suggestion?
