How to change default buttons

Gang,
I'd like to have the Reviewing toolbar buttons appear in every document,
below the New, Open, etc buttons, but I can't figure out if there's a
way to change this as a default setting for Word 2008. I had it set up
in Word 2004, but it seems the only option I have in the 2008 version is
to manually turn it on in every single document via the View menu.

I tried clicking and unchecking the boxes in the Customize Toolbars and
Menus dialog, but I didn't really understand the options. I did get a
floating palette for the Reviewing toolbar, but I was hoping to get it
incorporated in the top of the document like it does when I simply
select it from the View>Toolbars menu.

I'm using v12.1.0 in OS X 10.4.11.

thanks,

Hi Dennis -

Control/Right-Click a separator line on the Reviewing Toolbar while it's
floating & select Dock Toolbar in Window. That's where it will appear in any
document when Track changes is on, for docs containing changes/comments, or
if you activate the toolbar. It will not display automatically in New
documents or those which don't meet the above conditions.

There may be some other possibilities but I haven't played with it recently
& don't want to make false promises:). If I come up with other ideas I'll
post them here - or other folks may have suggestions.

Hi Dennis:

Thanks for adding your name: makes the whole place feel so much more human!

The Reviewing toolbar is programmed not to appear unless the document
contains at least one tracked change or comment.

You can outwit this by opening your Normal.dotm template as a document and
adding a comment :) Every new document will then have a comment saying
"This is the Reviewing Toolbar auto-get-out-of-bed mechanism that Microsoft
forgot." And the toolbar will appear :)

Cheers
