How to change my Office Product Code???

D

David P. Smith

Ok, I have an iMac and a PowerBook each with the same license of Office 2004
for Mac. They have up till now been used only by me and never at the same
time. I am now hiring an employee to use my PowerBook alongside me and we¹ll
both be using office at the same time. SO my license will not work, yet I
don¹t want to lose all of the emails, address book items, calendar items,
tasks, etc. that I have built on my PowerBook. So how can I purchase an
additional license of Office 2004 for Mac and NOT have to reinstall the
application on my PowerBook? I¹m happy to purchase another license, but I
don¹t know how to change the Product code once it¹s already installed?

Hi David,

to purchase another license, you will need to buy a new boxed version of
Office; you cannot simply buy a new product key. To remove a product key
while leaving the Office install intact, run the Remove Office tool in
Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office. When you
launch that application, you will see a button labelled "Continue" in the
lower right corner. Hold down the Option key, and the button will change to
"Remove Licensing Information Only". Now click on that button, and when
that's done, you will be asked to enter a new product key the next time you
launch an Office application.

Also, for your information, you would not lose your Entourage data if you
were to uninstall Office entirely. Entourage stores its data in
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data, and this folder is left untouched during an
uninstall. This is also the folder you may want to backup from time to time.
