Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I need to make spreadsheets in different languages and would like to use the different dictionaries that are available in Word in Excel.

Or for that matter, different dictionaries if there are any specific ones for Excel - Dutch + German.

If the latter, I need to know where to get them and how to install them.

Thanks.

The Office Proofing Tools are used by all Office apps. It's a matter of the
Language (or Languages) applied in the file being checked as to which set of
Proofing Tools are used... Dutch & German are included. Have a look in Excel
Help using the keyword: Language & explore the various related topics.

Thanks, and Sorry that is the theory but there is no such function I can find in the 2004 Excel section. true for Word and PPT, not Excel. I got information form MS in the mean time and it is available in 2008 version not the 2004 function.

thanks everybody.

Huh? Perhaps I just don't understand what you're actually looking for but
this is from one of the Help topics I suggested originally:

------------------------------------
Check spelling in another language
1. Open the worksheet that contains text written in another language.
2. On the Tools menu, click Language.
If you don't see Language on the Tools menu, select the Set Language check
box on the Add-ins dialog box (Tools menu, Add-ins command). If you don't
see Set Language listed in the Add-ins dialog box, install the Excel Add-ins
component, and then quit and restart Microsoft Excel. For step 5
(Installation) of the Setup Assistant, expand Office Tools by clicking the
arrow next to it, and then select the Excel Add-ins check bo3. In the
Language to use to check spelling box, click the language you want to check,
and then click OK.
Note Excel can only check spelling by using one language at a time. If you
need to check spelling by using multiple languages, you must quit and
restart Excel before choosing another languag4. To have your changes take
effect, quit and restart Excel.

I don't know who you contacted at MS, but it works as advertised here... at
least for German. Now that I dig a bit deeper, though, it looks like Dutch
is not included even though it is supposed to have been.

If you don't see Language on the Tools menu.... <
