How to change page size from custom to letter in Word 2003

I have seen a question and answer about this issue but it did not help me.

I have a very lengthy document that started out as a RTF document from
scanned PDF pages. I have modified it into a Word 2003 document but some of
the pages are just not right. A number are custom pages that show sizes such
9.69" x 12.82" or 21.69" x 12.12".

I need to conform some of these pages to letter size. In the case of the
larger size pages, I need to conform then to 19" x 11" or, barring that, 14"
x 8.5".

Whenever I try to change any of these custom page sizes, I get the same
message, "Settings you chose for the left and right margins, column spacing
or paragraph indents are too large for the page width in some sections."

I have tried changing all the margins, column spacing and indents, etc. I
have even inserted two next page breaks and then pasting the appropriate text
between them but Word insists on bringing the custom page sizes along with
the text.

I am at wit's end and would be most appreciative if someone could please
solve this problem for me.

Go to Format | Columns, make sure that "Whole document" is selected for the
"Apply to," and click on the Preset picture for One (even if 1 column is
already selected). Now try again to change the page size. Alternatively,
given that there will be section breaks between pages of different sizes,
delete the unnecessary section breaks and then format the single remaining
section to the desired size.

Delete all your section breaks.
Then change your paper size to what you want it to be. Section Breaks
contain the information about page sizes and margins. Once you are down to
one section you should be able to set the page size and margins. Then you
can go back and add in additional section breaks to change from portrait to
landscape and handle any different heading or footing text you want.
