How to change the resolution of graphs in Excell

How can I change the resolution of graphs in Excell (e.g. from default to 600
dpi)? Quality of my graphs is very poor even when I printed with 1200 dpi
printer option. I transfered my data to Matlab and generated a tiff file with
default resolution (150 dpi) and the quality was same as that of Excell. I
produced a second tiff file but with 400 dpi and the quality was much
improved. Is it possible to obtaine a higher resolution graph in MS Excell?

You can fiddle about with the page setup settings
[FILE/PAGE SETUP/PAGE] where there is an option to change
the resolution - however, it may be that your settings are
dependent on your printer capabilities.

On the same dialogue box, check that you don't
inadvertently have your charts on 'draft' quality.
[FILE/PAGE SETUP/CHARTS].

If this doesn't work - why don't you try creating a PDF,
as this gives you a lot of set up options.

The chart is essentially a metafile, a vector graphic comprised of individual
drawing objects (lines and shapes), and as such, its quality is dependent upon
printer settings.

For example, I just made a column chart with about 45 categories. On screen the
columns were two different widths, 3 pixels and 4 pixels, so the colored fill
regions of each column were either 1 or 2 pixels wide. Pretty bad resolution.
Ctrl-P, off to the Deskjet, and I can't resolve any difference in column width.
Sure, there are only limited integral line widths, but that's different than resolution.
