how to change

hi there, how can i change a text like '1234 to be a number? the problem is
that i couldn't change it into a number even i press the comma key or use
the "format cell" function. pls help. thanks

Select a blank cell
Copy
Select the "text number"
Edit > Paste Special > Add > OK

Hi

At first, independently of method you'll use, you have to ensure, that the
cell(s) format is General or Numeric.
Then, when the problem did occur with single cell only, select the cell in
Edit mode (double-click, or F2), in formula bar delete the preceeding
apostrophe, and press Enter.
When you have several such cells, enter 1 into some free cell (or find a
cell with number 1 in it) and copy it. Select the range to convert, and then
PasteSpecial.Multiply
