how to check the version of office

1. How do I determine the versionn of office that is on my computer?
2. When I run the office update for office 2000 which I think I have I get
the following statement.
The previous site might require the following ActiveX control: 'Office
Update Installation Engine' from microsoft Corporation.
I get the note on several things and that is great but I am not sure when I
should install an ActiveX. I need some direction with this problem. Thanks
for your help

For the version open any Office applications and go to Help, About.

If a Microsoft Update site offers an Active X control, just install it.
Active X controls are small files that are placed in the Windows\Downloaded
Program Files folder.
