How to choose task type for a science project

Jie

Our project is a NSF project and studying science instead of a commercial behavior. We want to define many tasks, but we cannot tell exactly how much time each task will take. These tasks have sequence. We also want to assign people to each task, but we do not care about whether they are overloading.

Can I do that? Thanks in advance

Hi Jie,

Nobody can ever tell exactly how much time a task is going to take; planners
have to estimate: I guess you will have to do that as well
Project is ideal for forcing task sequence (by introducting links or
dependencies between tasks)
And yes, of course, you can assign resources and if you don't mind
overallocation, Project won't either.

You could always use the PERT formula:

Duration = Best Estimate+4*Most Likely+Worst Estimate, all divided by 6.
