How to close a project?

R

Rodrigo Porto

I need to close a project for some time.

The project manager wants to do some big changes in his project, so he asked
me to "close" the project for 2 days.
During this time, no one in the project must be able to put hours in the
timesheet for any task related to the project.

I think a way to do this is to save the project in a file, delete from the
server, and, when the manager finishes his job, I save and publish the
project again.

But I do not like this solution.
There's a "close tasks for update" option in EPM.
This wold be a better solution? If I use this option, it will prevent the
users to edit these hours in timesheet?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Rodrigo,

Yes. It's the solution. Select all tasks from the plan and close them.
After that publish the plan in the same menu. Resources in that plan
can't see the tasks in timesheet menu.

Rodrigo,

I can think of a few solutions that will be much less painful than
removing the project schedule from the server and then doing an Import
to Enterprise.

1. You can have the project manager (you can do it also) open the
project schedule in Project Professional. On the Resource Sheet,
insert the "Booking Type" column and change all of the resources from
the default "Committed" to "Proposed" and then save and publish the
plan. That will remove assignments from the My Tasks page. After the
changes are made, reverse the process.

2. You can Delete the project from the Published database (Server
Settings > Database Administration > Delete Enterprise Objects), then
make changes to the Draft (Working) store copy and publish then.

3. You can Archive the plan using Administrative Backup and delete the
plan from both the Draft and Published databases, then restore the
Archived version for changes and publishing.

As always, it's a good idea for the PM to save the plan off as an .mpp
- but any of the solutions I have mentioned are safe.

Hope this helped,

Mask and Mark,

Thanks for your reply.

I did exactelly this.
But instead of saving the .mpp using the the "Save as..." option, I've used
the "Save for sharing".
This way, the MPP can edit the file offline and the post the changes into
the server.

Thanks again,
Best regards,
