How to close duplicate personal folders in outlook 2000?

J

Jacques S.

The problem I face is identical to the one for which a solution is given by
Microsoft in article 278167. But this solution applies only to outlook 2002
and , as I could see, it doesn't work in Outlook 2000 which I presently use
(with Windows 2000 SP4) : when clicking on "mail" in the configuration panel,
the text "show profiles" doesn't appear. Can someone give me a tip to delete
these duplicate personal and archive folders, so I can bring some order
again in my outlook folders.
As I have no error messages at all, the case is not the same as the one
raised by Mickey Chcg on 10/13/2004 (in microsoft .public.outlook.general)
Thank you beforehand.

What mode is Outlook 2000 configured in? See Help > About Microsoft
Outlook. Its right near the top where it will say Corporate/Workgroup or
Internet Mail Only.

Outlook 98/2000 (IMO [Internet Mail Only] Mode)
- On the View menu, click Folder List.
- Right click on the root folder of a folder list.
- Right click on the root of the extra set of Personal Folders
and choose "Disconnect" or "Close".

For the most stubborn of PSTs that will not remove from the folder list.

IMPORTANT: The following information contains information about editing the
registry. Before you edit the registry, you should first make a backup copy
of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat). Both are hidden files in
the Windows folder.

- Start RegEdit (Win9x/NT) or RegEdt32 (NT).
- Navigate to:
* Win9x users
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\<your profile name>
* WinNT users
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<your profile name>
- Look in the tree under that point (it should be full of keys with long
hexidecimal value names) and look for a section that references the PST file
you want off of your folder tree. Export that section (for safety) and then
delete it.

I tried the simple method and it worked immediately. I couldn't find this tip
in the Help explanations of Outlook!.
Thank you very much, Neo.
