How to close/lock a completed project - not delete it?

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to close a project to any future updates. It is
completed, but we do not want to delete the project. I know that you can
lock down time periods but surely there is a 'close' option somewhere that is
permanent and won't have to be checked every two weeks for a new time period.
Would this be done in MS Project, or in PWA? I've googled this but can't seem
to find relevant answers.

Thanks for any help.

Hi

Going ahead with Mike's suggestion. If you want it to be available for
everyone to view, but not make changes in it, Save as 'Read only' through
'Tools' option in 'Save as' dialog box.

I hope it helps.

Hello,

Thank you both for your responses. They sound like great solutions to our
issue but unfortunately neither of them seem to be available to me. We use
project pro '03 here to publish to project server, not 2007. I apologize for
not mentioning that earlier. Are those new features available in the later
version? The only options I have in the Save As dialogue box are changing the
type, version, administrative project, calendar, and our custom fields.

Hi ,

In that case, try posting on the microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup
(forum). Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project Newsgroups. FAQs, companion
products and other useful Project information can be seen at this web

In the future, please post your Project Server 2003 questions to the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is devoted to
questions about the Microsoft Project desktop application only. To answer
your question, you can use the custom methodology shown in the following
FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/ProjectServerFAQKnowledgeBase/ArchiveCompletedProjects.aspx

Please note that there is no DEFAULT way to close out and lock a project.
The steps in the FAQ represent a methodology that is a workaround to the
lack of a formal project archival capability in the system. Hope this
helps.
