How to collect effort by categories?

Hi all,

We are using Project 2003 Server + Pro.
I want to collect actual effort by categories but don't know how. For
example,for a task named Function ABC coding, we need to collect efforts for
this task by categories: Generate new code ?h, Debugging ?h, study ?h ...

We don't want to collect these information by creating sub-tasks because
most of these catigories are general. Could we define enterprise outline
code to do this?

Hi,

you can use a custom field with a value list. Assign a value to each task
and group the view to get the totals.

Hi Renke,

Just saw this thread and I am trying to create something similar(I
think). I want to be able to add a task categary (development / QA/
Analysis / research) and then view this in the portfolio analyzer. Will
creating an Enterprise Custom Field do it?
