How to combine Word97 files?

Hi,

I have several files .doc (Word97).
I'd like to combine them (make 1 file)
without losing formats used in the files
(the files include tables).

How to do it? I'd like to avoid inserting
one file to another.

With that constraint it would seem you are left with creating 2 PDF
files and appending one to the other.

Or just add all files to a zip file. Depending on the format you need /
want. If you just want one file, the easies may be one zip file. Then you
can open each file in the zip archive.

You can also create a macro inserting all files into one "main file". But
that may lose formatting. If you use the same style names, but they are
different, the formatting will change.

If you inset the files into another word file, I recommend inserting
"section break continue on next page" between the files.

What about page numbers? In the original file I they normally start on page
1. That means page numbers must be restarted for each section.

Hi Bob and Harald,

Thanks you very much for your advice.
I'll try the methods you suggested during the weekend.
I must admit that I didn't realise that it's so complicated.

Hi again,

Thanks for advice from all fo you.

Eventually I decided to insert all the files
into a new one. The tables are OK.
