How to connect multiple Visio Documents or Visio pages 4 web displ

Okay here is the situation:My company currently utilizes NETVIZ for Nework
Documentation. I was tasked to Export NETVIZ to Visio 2007 pro. Since our
documentation is over 1400 pages we could not export it as 1 document becuase
Visio would crash trying to load it. So i went through it and loaded one by
one. Some documents are just one page but some are up to 20 pages. What I need
to be able to do is to go back through and reconnect all these. The ultimate
goal is to get it all in one document saved as a web document so we can then
display on Sharepoint or on Orion. but all the document s must be linkable.
I am not sure the best way to go anbout this. I have tried several methods
with minimal success.First I tried to load each document and create a "Home"
and "Back One" shapes with hyperlinks to the first docuemnt or the previous
document. I have linked about 5 Documents doing this, and then save, and
saved as web page. The web page automatically loads and I then try the shapes
with the hyperlink, one maybe even two of them will work but it will not work
beyond that, i will get a Internet connection lost error.I also tried the OPC
shapesheet Off-Document Referance and get the same results. The only other
option I have not tried is loading each docuemnt then copying and pasting
into one document and linking the pages internally, then saving it all as one
document and one web page, but my fear is that it will be to big to load.Any
advice on how to attack this?

Hi,

Have you followed any kind of naming convention with your document names (ie
Document01.vsd, Document02.vsd etc)?

If you have then you could create the relative hyperlink urls based on that
convention. This could also include multipage documents using query
strings:

Mind you, it seems a shame to have that many host documents. I wonder why
(and there may be a good reason) you can't fit all of these things into a
single document?

Is the export process generating master shapes and then creating child
shapes based on those masters, or are you just getting a one for one export
(ie a new shape each time)?

Does the export produce a lot of bitmap based based shapes, large sections
of text or other embedded objects?

Anyway, food for thought.

Hope that helps

Best regards

John,
Thank you for reponding.
Their is a convential naming process invovled. Not like the one you listed
though. I have a main page that is the name of my company then a seconday
page which Company2 then after that it breaks up by Region of US then by City
code which is an internal coding system used by my company.

All I know is we tried to export NETVIZ as one document, and like i said it
was over 1400 pages. It exported fine but when you try to open it in visio,
visio crashes.

Im not sure what you mean by master shapes and such. Please elaborate?
Thanks

Well if you have some kind of standard for naming then you have a means of
creating the links. For example if your target document is named
"Texas.vsd" then the Save As Web url will be "Texas.htm". Equally, if you
want to link to a specific page (named "FortWorth") then you should be able
to add the page name as a parameter: "Texas.htm?page=FortWorth"

In terms of performance I'll add a few links which you might want to read up
on (or not):
