How to convert from OE to Outlook 97 on roadrunner

Time Warner (Roadrunner) installed Outlook Express on my XP Home 2002
pc. I would prefer to switch to Outlook (have version 97). Since I
am probabaly not the first person in this situation I'm wondering if
anyone could point me to step by step instructions for converting.
(Roadrunner claim they don't support this and won't help me)....

I could stumble ahead on my own but am concerned about losing all
existing contacts and emails. Should I be?

Appreciate guidance.
