How to convert Table of Contents in Word to Adobe bookmarks

This question has been posed previously to this group but only
received a response of going to the Adobe web site, which does not
provide an answer, at least that I can find. I heard once that the
issue was with Microsoft not being willing to giving permission to
Adobe to insert this conversion process on the any of its MacOffice
versions. Why is this not being protested loudly!! Microsoft has
always allowed this in Windows versions of Office. If you know the
answer to how to do this conversion please let me know. I can find no
way to set it up on a Mac Thanks, Gail Hoge

Hi Gail:

What you heard is not correct. Microsoft doesn't care what Adobe does, and
makes all the program entries available for Adobe (or anyone else, for that
matter) to do whatever they like.

I think you might find that the real reason it doesn't happen is that Adobe
has to re-write their PC code to run on the Mac, and so far, they haven't.

You *could* make the argument that Microsoft should change Mac Word so that
PC Word VBA runs well in it. And I have, several times, and quite
forcefully :) However, I have now accepted that Microsoft should not do
it.

The reason is that it would cost a lot of money. Money which is currently
being spent making a new version of Office for Panther. Money which would
be wasted, because VBA is going away, on both the Mac and the PC, very soon.
And the main reason VBA is going away is that it cannot be properly secured.

The thing that replaces it will be Visual Basic dot-NET. It is going to be
a big step forward: it's a true object-oriented compiled run-time, which is
great for people wanting to write really substantial applications in it.
But the main reason it is coming soon and with some resulting disruption, is
because the design of the old VBA simply can never be made properly secure.

Oh: and rumour has it that when Office for Panther arrives, it is actually
going to be substantially superior to the PC version. Of course, I could
not possibly confirm or deny such a rumour :)

Hope this helps
