How to copy file from folder to cd-r in cd-rom drive?

I'm using Windows XP and each time I try to copy a file from Windows Explorer
to my cd-rom drive, it gives me an error saying that the drive "E" is
inaccessible. Help! I've read answers to some questions in the community
discussion group, but when I try to do as they instruct, I still can't copy
from my hard drive to a cd. Thanks for all your help.

cd-rom means compact disk-read only memory.
it is a play only device

you need a cd-rw device to write onto a cd-rw disk
